Well as I am coming into my last month as an officer I find myself actually quite sad! I have been involved with the Students’ Union for 3 years in one way or another and I can’t say anything else but I have enjoyed every minute of it.
I was given the phrase ‘Dive in’ before I started University and that’s exactly what I did. I have joined societies, competing for the university, I was a part-time officer and the ran and got elected for a full time position.
This year the team has worked really well with each other and I have made some friends for life. I really have. We have set up Hall Reps, Campaigned for Students in the Red, ran a successful elections campaign with all full time positions contested, have more sports teams and societies (with their own councils), held sub committees such as the entertainments committee and had a more successful RAG year then ever before. These are just some of the things we have achieved.
After addressing some issues raised by Student council I am busy working my hardest to rectify any mistakes made or mandates missed , this is others officers not just my own. We do care about the work we do as officers we represent the students to the highest of our abilities. I just hope the students can see our successes as well as any negatives. This week I am also helping finalise stuff with Bullet magazine and of course looking towards my handover with Emma. Making sure she has everything she needs to do the best job I know she can.
