Before you sign your contract you should know a couple of things.

You should receive 24 hours’ notice prior to your landlord entering the property. Unless otherwise stated in your contract or in an emergency.

You should be given instructions on how to pay rent and the amount to be paid each time. If they refuse to take payment separate the money and keep attempting to pay.

You have the right to be able to contact your landlord. You need the name and a UK contact address for your landlord. If you have gone through a letting agent they should provide you with this.

You can get your landlord’s name and address by contacting the agent or rent collector, preferably in letter form. It’s a criminal offence not to reply within 21 days of receiving your letter
