Voluntering abroad can give you an amazing and rewarding time whilst experiencing cultures very differenet from ours here in the UK.
However we can only recommend a particular international volunteering opportunity or organisation once we are able to verify the quality of the opportunities offered and the integrity of the management of the organisation.
Unlike UK based charities this is very difficult to do but for a number of years we have had strong links with the charity People First India. Each summer we arrange for students to go to India to volunteer with the charity - you'll find information about this opportunity on the "Community Based" volunteering page behind the International symbol.
What we can do though is provide you with some links to various organistions that offer International opportunities - we would advise that you research the organisation and oppportunity fully before committing your time and/or money to it - all we want to do is make sure you have a safe and fulfilling experience. Some of the things you should consider are:
What does the organisation do?
How are they managed?
What would you be expected to do as a volunteer?
What do you have to pay & where does this money go?
Other things to think about include: flights; insurance; visa's; vaccinations; equipment
If you have any questions about volunteering abroad and the sorts of things to consider when making your choice do please get in touch with us.
We would recommend that you look at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website before deciding where to volunteer - http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/
