    First Call Volunteer

    Tasks:
    The role involves providing practical and/or emotional support to the service user to regain independence and confidence. This may be helping with meals, shopping or escorting them to social activities, or providing companionship either face to face or through telephone support.

    Location: Lincoln area

    Support and supervision:
    Volunteers are required to work alone and unsupervised, however will have full support and regular contact from the project worker. Training in health and safety, first aid and safeguarding is provided during the induction period and further optional training is available.

    Personal qualities and requirements:
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work alone and unsupervised
    • An understanding of the needs of service users of different ages, physical needs and backgrounds.
    • Ability and willingness to follow standard procedures and undertake relevant tasks as requested by the service coordinator.

    They assist their local police force, forming a vital link between the regular (full-time) police and the local community.

    ACTS Trust – Energize

    The focus of Energize is to provide positive activities for young people in Lincoln enabling them to live life to the full through sports, creative arts, life skills training and other events. Many of these young people are at risk of exclusion from school and we aim to promote essential life skills such as self esteem, team work, respect and discipline to help them make positive life choices. The Energize team are in contact with around 300 young people each week in schools and clubs and they run activity schemes during the holidays.

    Lincoln Drill Hall

    Title of Role:
    Butterfly Club team member

    Tasks:
    To provide front of house welcome and support at the Drill Hall’s ‘Butterfly Club’, the venue’s regular party nights for adults (over 16s) with disabilities

    Location:
    Lincoln Drill Hall Auditorium


    Support and supervision:
    Volunteers managed and supported by Gavin Street (Marketing Manager) and Charlie Kemp (Audience Development Officer)

    Personal qualities and requirements:
    Strong interpersonal and customer care skills essential. Interest in and experience of disability issues preferable but not essential as training will be provided.

    Skills the volunteer will learn or develop:
    Team Work, Communication Skills – verbal, Initiative, Planning and Organisation

    Availability:
    Volunteers needed between 6pm – 11pm on Wednesday 19 October, Wednesday 14 December and at future Butterfly Club and Butterfly Effect events, these yet to be confirmed.

    Lace Housing Ltd

    Title of role:
    Day Centre Volunteer

    Tasks:
    * Assisting support workers and clients with activities such as arts and crafts games, New Age Kurling, Bingo, by organising the space and helping individuals who find concentration difficult.

    * Serving with beverages and cleaning away also helping with lunch time by waitressing meals to the tables.

    * Being a listening ear, having a chat.

    * Assisting with our Transport by supporting their journeys to and from home.

    Location:
    Eccleshare Court Day Centre previously named Ashby Court

    Support and supervision:
    Day Centre Officer, 2 support workers at hand all the time for support.

    Personal qualities and requirements:
    The candidate needs to enjoy being around people.
    An interest in helping others and or giving them time to do something for themselves with guidance.
    Good time keeping skills and trustworthy.
    Any personal hobbies that can shared with others.

    Skills the volunteer will learn or develop:
    Time management skills.
    Communication skills that are not always general verbal skills.
    The importance of relationship building.
    Support to develop further in a chosen career to be involved in house training such as first aid, equality and diversity, mental health act, understanding dementia. Moving and handling.

    Availability:
    5 days Mon to Fri excluding bank holidays

    Mentor (National Citizen Service Programme 2012)

    Tasks:
    • Support, coach and develop a group of 10 – 15 young people through a summer programme of personal and social development
    • Facilitate team work, group discussions and guided reflection
    • Support the planning and implementation of a youth led community project
    • To actively take part in all aspects of the programme

    Location:
    Various across Lincolnshire and Rutland

    Support and supervision:
    Mentors will attend a 3-day training course to ensure they feel confident within their roles. Training will include:
    • An introduction to National Citizen Service 2012
    • Guidance on working with young people
    • Safeguarding,
    • Health and Safety

    All mentors will receive support and guidance from lead mentors during their time on the programme.

    Personal qualities and requirements:
    Qualities:
    • A commitment to working with young people
    • Enthusiastic and positive attitude, Ability to motivate and inspire
    • Problem solving skills, Ability to work well as part of team
    • Willingness to learn and develop strong leadership skills

    Requirements:
    • Must be 18 or over
    • Will require an enhanced CRB disclosure check and appropriate safeguarding training (This will be paid for by The EBP)
    • This is a 4-week programme and mentors will ideally be available for its full duration
    • Must work to accepted professional standards as set by The EBP

    Leadership skills
    Problem solving and conflict resolution
    Skills and experience of working with a social mix of young people
    Group engagement skills and techniques
    Working in the community

    Availability:
    National Citizen Service is a 4 week summer programme that will be running twice throughout July and August. The start dates are as follows:

    • 23rd July 2012
    • 30th July 2012

    In addition to this, Mentors will be expected to attend a 3 day training programme during April/May. They will also be invited to a launch event on the 28th June 2012.

    Mentors will ideally be available for the full duration of the programme however we would like to hear from everyone who is interested in supporting National Citizen Service. Candidates who are not able to commit to the 4 weeks may be able to take on alternative roles within the programme.

    We will be encouraging mentors to meet with their groups before the start of the programme however The EBP appreciates that this might not always be possible.
