People First India offers a chance every year for volunteers to join their staff working alongside them in a village experience programme which offers a unique chance to discover the real India. It gives you the opportunity to be involved in projects dealing with the various issues relating to poverty and to experience first hand the very real difference this works makes to peoples lives.
Welcome - Orientation (3 days); Introductions and expectations; Basic Hindi; Caste system; Cultural differences; Development Issues
Followed by project working such as:
Working alongside existing staff
Teaching in a local school
Working with the health team
Picnic and overnight stay at Kanjiar rural centre
Working on a group project with the children
Evaluation with farewell evening meal and distribution of completion certificates

Now recruiting for Summer 2012 - July 25th to August 8th 2012 + travel time - you will need to be in Delhi by 23rd July
The cost of this programme is £269 for students in full time education and £369 for those in full time employment. In addition you will need to pay for your flight (Virgin is recommended as you can go direct from Heathrow to Delhi), Visa, vaccinations and insurance.
For those who pay in full before the end of January 2012 a 10% discount is applicable.
