Why should students get involved in the #WeAreLincoln community?

Image Description

The #WeAreLincoln community encompasses all the sports, societies and academic societies we have here at Lincoln SU. Earlier this year we sat down with Katie Maloney, Sports Officer 2018/19 to find out why getting involved with this community is so key to the Lincoln uni experience.

How long have you been involved with the #WeAreLincoln community?

I’ve been involved for 4 years. Over these 4 years I’ve been a member of swimming every year and in my final year I also joined hockey.

Why do you think the #WeAreLincoln community is so important to the Lincoln uni experience?

Every team and society has their own traditions and identities, so there is something for everyone.  The friends you make through the #WeAreLincoln community become your second family and support you through everything, regardless if you’re new or in your final year.

What do you love most about the #WeAreLincoln community?

Its inclusiveness and community.  Even if you are not from a certain team or society, other teams will always include you, letting you join in their socials. If teams or societies are going through tough times everyone comes together to support each other, which gives us a very big presence and identity on campus.

If you could give one piece of advice to incoming Freshers about sports and societies what would it be?

Go to as many taster sessions for teams and societies as possible. Every team environment is different, which makes it easy for you to find the one that suits you. You will have an amazing group of friends wherever you go.

Are we missing anything?

Yes. Just one last thing. It’s important to remember the more you buy into teams and societies the more you are going to get out of it. The teams and societies make up the #WeAreLincoln community, but they are so much more than that, they are a family.
