Are you an international student settling into the University of Lincoln? Or, are you a UK student looking to help others settle into life in a UK university?
The International Buddy scheme is a fantastic volunteer opportunity that links international and local students who are members of the University of Lincoln Students’ Union. Once local students have signed up to be a Buddy, they will receive training and will be paired up with an international student based on their common hobbies and interests. While exchanging cultures and creating memories, the international student will learn about the Students' Union, know where to access support if needed and generally settle into Lincoln with a new friend by their side!
What does being a 'buddy' involve for home students?
If you're interested in helping international students get their bearings whilst having fun and meeting new people, then that's most of the work done! Each month you and your Buddy will be given a budget to complete a series of informal mini-tasks. You will also be a main point of contact if your Buddy needs help and support, directing them where necessary. In the main though, the scheme is aimed at giving you both an amazing cross-cultural experience.
What does having a 'buddy' involve for international students?
Register your interest and meet local students. That's pretty much it. Buddies have been created as the perfect way to integrate with local UK campus and culture, so get involved! Awards will be given to the most engaged Buddy pair at the end of the programme!
Do you have questions?
This opportunity is led and overseen by your Vice President International (pictured right) who will be able to answer any questions you may have. You will also have the support of our professional Students' Union's Advice Centre team for any further guidance.
