Pricecheck
Description

Have you ever wondered how the discount retailers manage to stock the well known brands at a bargain price?  How the online prices can differ so much to the same product available in stores?

In the lively and competitive FMCG arena, Pricecheck has long established relationships with many brand owners and major suppliers, sourcing key branded lines which we then sell on to a range of different outlets.  We understand business – we buy and sell quality product, whilst understanding the market and getting to know exactly what our customers want.  This simple and driven approach has seen us develop trade in over 75 countries as we continue to explore new categories, markets and territories.

And we’re getting it right too – we were awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, High Growth Business of the Year at the Sheffield Business Awards 2017 and Export Business of the Year in 2015 as well as being recognised in The Sunday Times International Track 200.

We buy thousands of product lines from hundreds of suppliers – we never know where the next deal will take us, making for a fast paced, ever changing and exciting place to work and we’re on the lookout for an undergraduate student to join our IT team for their year in industry.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting into the Head of IT, you will be part of the team supporting a busy trading business and assisting in the development of ongoing technologies.

Whilst there is no thing as a typical day, your duties will range from supporting users and maintaining established systems, to developing new programmes and helping to build new business solutions.   You will be confident in designing and updating SQL reports and work closely with the Head of IT to enhance bespoke systems using Microsoft and IOS technologies.  You will learn the skills to identify where technology can enhance rather than restrict a business and work through the build, test and implementation phases of IT related projects.  You will be liaising with other departments throughout the organisation to integrate IT solutions and provide varied assistance and support, gaining an appreciation that IT is much more than just computer screens and keyboards.

Given that our placements are 15 months long, you will be learning the ropes from our current placement student, and then becoming the mentor and passing on your knowledge and experience to the students who then follow on from you in the next placement year.

What we’re looking for

With so much going on, you need to be sharp, smart with an eagerness to learn – we ask that you be studying towards an IT related degree with strong A levels (or the associated equivalent).  However, we look for more than just academic achievements of our team.  Show us that you have a real interest in business and a forward thinking approach to technology - we would love to hear more from you.

You will be a confident communicator and work with clarity, with the tenacity to see activity through to timely completion.  You will be an organised and logical thinker, operating at pace and under pressure, whilst not sacrificing

quality, accuracy and customer service.  You will see the importance of attention to detail, yet awareness for the bigger picture and be keen to understand how business works in practice.

Whilst there will be plenty of training available and scope for self-development, knowledge and experience in HTML, CSS, Java Script, SSIS/SRS/SSAS, Objective C or Swift, PHP, Active Directory and Photoshop would be desirable.

How you’ll do it

Following an in depth induction where you will spend time with all areas of the business, you will be working with our existing placement student and the wider IT team in getting to know our bespoke systems and processes as part of your on the job training.  Given how varied the roles can be, you will thrive in a dynamic and ever changing environment, with a desire to apply your knowledge, learn skills and take direction from those around you.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting into the Management Accountant, you will be central in the day to day smooth running of finance related administration.  You will carry out multiple roles in rotation during your placement year to ensure full exposure to the finance function and variety of task.  These activities may include sales order entry and invoicing, cash management and collating information to help complete management accounts.  You will assist in the preparation and production of export documentation and seek out better ways of doing things, whilst learning from those around you and becoming a central and invaluable member of the team.

Additionally, you may also work alongside the Buying team to be their financial and administrative support.  Using our bespoke systems, you will be creating, updating and maintaining product records to provide an accurate representation of the stock we hold.  You will get to know the stock inside out – from accurate purchase order entry, stock photography, product analysis and descriptions.  You will also be liaising with other departments throughout the organisation to facilitate sample coordination, enquiring into new product arrivals and overseeing quality control, gaining an appreciation that finance is much more than just calculators and number crunching.
