The community map has been created to highlight the best places and areas of interest for students in Lincoln and its launch follows 3 months of hard work from the campaigns network, students and myself.
The locations seen on the map were suggested by students for students and cover a range of student demographics including BAME, LGBT+, women’s and international as well as areas of historical and environmental interest and hidden gems within Lincoln.
Following the launch of the project we received over 160 different location suggestions within Lincoln that students thought their peers should know about, this was then narrowed down to the collection that can be seen on the map. This process involved a lot of communications with students to ensure we were left with a representative collection of locations, some of the most notable being a zero waste shop, several afro-Caribbean specialist barbers in Lincoln, Asian supermarkets and locally owned and ran restaurants and cafes. While we can’t include every single small business recommended to us by students we always want to discover new places, so please get in touch at [email protected] if you think we missed any out!
The map is so exciting as it allows students to discover the hidden gems and local businesses that they may not otherwise find within the city, this not only supports them but further integrates students into the community. It also allows students to discover places that are popular within different cultures and allows this to be shared. Finally, it is informative tool for many students, with accessible venues, ask for Angela venues and charities being noted.
We hope that no matter what type of student you are you will find something useful or a new favourite spot though the community map (I know I did while I was creating it!) and if you do please let us know and tag us in any photos! You can now view the community map by clicking here.
