Important update from your Students’ Union image

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced a new package of guidance and restrictions, in regards to slowing the spread of COVID-19. We’ve worked carefully to make sure that we can still provide events and opportunities to all students, however the new guidance will impact some of the operations at the Students’ Union and will also affect the way our student members take part in some of our events and SU Groups. It is important that ALL students read this update.

Venues and Events
The new guidelines from the government include a 10pm closing time for venues and bars across the country. This means that all of our venues (The Swan, Towers and Engine Shed) will be closing at 10pm every night. Food and drink will still be available to order for delivery via our Student Orders app until 11pm every evening.
Due to the size of the venue, The Barge is to remain closed whilst social distancing is still in place.

The new closing time rule has also meant that we have had to adapt our Welcome Week line-up; with some event times being moved, some being changed, and some new events being added. To see the full updated Welcome Week line up and information on tickets, please click here.

Sport, Societies and other Student Groups
Being a part of a student group, such as a sport, society, Campaigns Network groups or the International Students’ Association, is an important part of your university experience, and we want to make sure that you are still able to do this safely this year.

It is now the expectation that all members of our sports, societies, Campaigns Network and ISA will adhere to the government’s ‘Rule of Six’, which prohibits social gatherings of more than six people in any setting, indoors or outdoors. There are some important exemptions, such as gatherings for education or work purposes, and team sports organised in accordance with government guidelines and that sports’ National Governing Body.

It is crucial that all committees AND members of our student groups, read the update here.
