More Recording of Lectures

I would like to see more of our lectures being recorded and uploaded to Blackboard as it allows students to review and watch them back at a later date. This would be extremely beneficial to our revision especially before exams, or for those who have missed lectures as it means we could catch up or find information that we previously missed during the lecture, enhancing the learning experience.

Vice President Education,

A survey has now been released to University Staff to understand the barriers of lecture recording. This will be considered in the guidance for a move towards an "Opt-out" approach from September 2019

Vice President Education,

Since the last Lecture Recording Working Group, we have produced a timescale of actions, in order to achieve an effective rollout of lecture recording for September 2019. Alongside this, a video has been produced for staff and students, highlighting how Panopto can be used! A small digital campaign has been planned for November around increasing the use of Panopto around campus, consisting of case studies from both staff and students!

Vice President Academic Affairs,

Since this was approved, I now chair a Working Group alongside Andy Beggan, Dean of Digital Education designed to look at devising a plan to enable the adoption of lecture recording across the University from September 2018.

In response to the feedback on why some lecturers reluctant to record their lectures, if students use the recordings as a substitute leading to them not turning up to lectures then that's their choice and their tutors should notice. I personally don't think the majority should have something as helpful as lecture recordings unavailable due to the minority not using it for revision purposes etc.
