Suicide Intervention Training for Society Committee Members
I want to see Suicide Intervention Training for Society Committee Members implemented. This is because committee members are at closer level to other students which are part of their society, they are authority figures which have been democratically voted in meaning they are more than likely approachable and responsible. This gives a clear option for members to seek help if university services are too daunting. Approaching a friend is much more common and knowing the signs of someone in crisis is something that could be crucial. Giving these individuals life saving training through a two day course from Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) could save lives of students given the current increase of student suicide across England. The course is given to counsellors, police, nurses and more all with varying levels of experience of counselling (from none at all to experienced). I hope my view on this important issue is shared, thank you.
