Properly advertise our All Students Meeting
Currently the monthly All Students Meeting is the only face-to-face chance students have to affect what is happening on campus and to hold their officers to account. Unfortunately, to do this we need to have 50 students in the room, otherwise we cannot vote on any proposals brought forward by students- a number we have failed to reach 6 times in a row so far this year.
Some assume this means that students do not care- but if students do not know the meeting is happening, how could they possibly turn up? ASM has been poorly advertised, yet the great election turnout recently shows that we can engage students if we put the effort in.
Therefore this SUggestion proposes that the executive team put much more effort into promoting the next ASM, including:
Posters around all buildings in campus
Proper social media advertising, posting in groups, creating a hashtag etc
Sending out an all-student email a few days prior to the meeting
Student Leader Feedback
The Student Leaders have actively been advertising the All Student Members meeting that have been held in the 17/18 Academic Year, of which had the highest turn out and engagement over the last few years. This approach is one that will be adopted moving forward, therefore we can note that this SUggestion is completed.
The Student Leaders have actively committed time to GOAT (go out and talk) and promote ASMs over the last couple of months, which have seen great turnout and engagement. This will be a concentrated effort moving forward
I have begun looking into ways in which we can increase reach and engagement of students with ASMs. I think this is an effort that can be consolidated by collaborative work with the rest of the student leader team. When they begin in office we will fully assess our own responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of this SUggestion
