The SU should look at linking the room booking system with the scan in system at the library to free up room booking space.
At peak assessment time, it is hard to find space in the library to get on with your work. It has become apparent that spaces in the library are being block booked, but then nobody is turning up to make use of this space, to the annoyance of people that need it.
Since the library has a scan in system which registers whether you are in the library or not, this suggestion, if it is possible, would be to link this with the room booking system in order to determine whether or not people are making use of their booked rooms. For example, if someone has not scanned into the library within 10 minutes of the start of their room booking, the room will then be made available on the room booking system. It could also be suggested that a fine system is put in place for those who do not turn up for their bookings or fail to cancel them.
Whilst it won't help cases where people are in the library but do not use the booked room, this may help free up some of the spaces for those that need it.
